Misaligned teeth, overbites and underbites can often be treated with dental braces and the same might apply to jaw pain depending on the cause of the problem. Jaw pain is often a result of teeth shifting out of position and a dentist may try to treat the problem with corrective devices (like braces).

However, sometimes surgery is required particularly for those with:

  • Misaligned jaw
  • Prominent or misaligned teeth
  • Persistent jaw pain due to impacted or crowded teeth

In general, orthodontic surgery is reserved for more severe or challenging cases and this is something that will need to be decided between your dentist and an oral surgeon.
